General Vang Pao Peace Rally Michigan

The arrest of former General Vang Pao, the most prominent Hmong leader of our time, on charges of plotting to overthrow the Laos People Democratic Republic government, one of the remaining dictatorship regimes in the world -- whether the charge against him is true or not remains unclear. What remains clear to us is, he is a highly moral and selfless individual who will go to a great link to find peace, justice, freedom, and democracy for his people. Let us not forget that the reason we gather here today on these steps in the State Capitol of Lansing, MI is not to protest the U.S. government or to condone violence. We are here because we want to appeal to the United States local, state, and federal officials and to the mainstream public that General Vang Pao is a man with an incredible history with respect to freedom and democracy. The General helped free the Hmong and many Laotian people by working with the French against Communism in the 40's and 50's then he formed an alliance with the U.S. in the 60's until this very day. General Vang Pao is an American hero, and a patriot. We have difficulty believing what we see and hear in the news about his arrest of plotting to overthrow a Communist regime. We find it difficult to believe that General Vang Pao, even if all 250,000 Hmong Americans in the U.S. are involved, could actually overthrow a tyrannical regime like the Lao PDR - the same that the United States and the Hmong combined could not defeat 32 years ago. We feel that General Vang is being entrapped and was led to believe that the United States government is actually going to help him to rescue the Hmong stranded in the jungle of Laos -- who are on the run for fear of the Lao government's persecution and genocide. Even if the General had the intention to restore freedom and democracy in Laos by force, indicting him is very much like we are indicting leaders who helped the U.S. to topple the Al Qaeda network, Afghanistan, and the late Saddam Hussein's regime. To thousands of Southeast Asian Americans from France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and from the east coast to the west of the U.S., it feels very much like Americans are indicting President Bush for overthrowing Iraq and Afghanistan. The only difference is, General Vang Pao's charge is only a plot that could not have happened without full support from that of the Unites States. Let us not forget that America armed General Vang Pao just 30 years ago to the defeat Communism which nonetheless led to the collapse of the former Soviet Unions. If he is guilty of the charge, is America ready to say that we refuse to acknowledge the cause that we too believe. Aren't we, Americans, fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan currently on the pillars that all people in the world deserve to have democracy, the basic human right to liberty, freedom and justice for all? It is well documented that, with General Vang Pao's leadership from 1961-1975, Hmong forces blocked the Ho-Chi-Minh trails to stop the flow of North Vietnamese troops from entering south, rescued downed American pilots and provided crucial support for the U. S. military in its war against North Vietnam. He is also an honored and respected civil and military leader, who led Hmong forces in attempting to prevent communists from taking control of Laos before 1975. Since immigrating to the United States in 1975, Gen. Vang Pao has been a tireless and selfless advocate for democracy, human rights and his Hmong people. He has worked actively to pursue peaceful solutions to the problems in Laos and has disavowed violence in public radio and news agencies in 2003 and 2004. General Vang Pao, Senator Norm Coleman, and former Ambassador to Laos, Douglas Hartwick, has nonetheless discussed peaceful plans to reconcile with the remaining Communist regime Laos. The bottom line is General Vang Pao stands for peace, justice and freedom. We are also here today to show our respect and honor to his legacy and leadership and we look forward toward a trial where we can peacefully demonstrate his innocence on all of the charges. We ask that the U.S. Justice Department give him a fair trial and treat him with respect and integrity. During the last 32 years in the U.S., the General helped establish a chain of Lao Hmong Family Community centers to help Hmong refugees in education, work, and many other aspects and he has appeared in almost all major Hmong American events or festivities. He urged Hmong to work hard, get educated, and take advantage of the free opportunity to live the American dream, the life that many others -- particularly his generation could not have imagined. In many public interviews, although he remains a tireless advocate for freedom and democracy in Laos, he never promised any military takeover of Laos except he urged his people to be in defense -- which is a basic principle and right that any human being is allowed to have. When people asked him why he continues to advocate for freedom and democracy, he simply said "it was a wish... if you wish for something enough, someday it should come true. It gives (the Hmong people) hope -- the older people have nothing here. They (Hmong elders) want to go back." The General has a clear vision, purpose and is noble in the essence of freedom and hope. The former U.S. ambassador to Vietnam and now a Southeast Asia expert at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Raymond Burghardt, stated that he also acknowledged the General had shifted from his formerly militant position to that of a Civil Rights leader. He continued to say, "What's particularly strange about this is in recent years, Vang Pao has been seen as relatively moderate, having engaged in talks with the Lao government." The other reason the General and other Hmong continues to advocate democracy and freedom for Laos is due to the killing and torturing of the Hmong still trickling out of the jungles of Laos. According to a 2007 Amnesty International report, Groups of Hmong living in remote areas continued to be at risk of the Lao PDR regime's military attacks, hardship and disease. These are remnants of an anti-communist resistance from the 1960s and were living in poverty while hiding from the authorities, particularly the military. As of April 6, 2006 government troops launched an attack on a Hmong group foraging for food from the jungle hide outs some 20 kilometers from the tourist town of Vang Vieng, killing at least 26 people, mostly women and children. But, the Lao authorities denied. The point is, because of the Hmong's role in Vietnam, they continue to suffer so severely under the hands of the Communists Lao government. If the coup attempt is true as alleged, it is because thirty-two years of killing (Hmong) is too long; it is overdue, and perhaps our great leaders are trying to do something to help the people to have a chance to live. Many wars in the world in the past and today are fought on economic and political interests; General Vang Pao simply wanted to free his people -- for humanitarian reason. We believe that no one would be plotting a military takeover, if the LPDR government adopts human rights and democratic norms like the rest of the world. Instead of prosecuting the General and the ten individuals and entrapping them of a plot to overthrow a dictatorship regime, the U.S. Department of Justice should be tracking down people who are trying to overthrow democracies instead. We should spend our resources and effort to help President Bush and our U.S. troops tracking down those who are responsible for the destruction of the Twin Towers in New York. We should help put political and economic pressure to stop the killings in Laos and dictatorship regimes in elsewhere in the world. We should have better work to do than jailing and penalizing our own American heroes.

This amazing anime style RPG series is one of my faves and is really well done and a great Anime/RPG game series IMO The OST is really well done and features a lot of great songs from the game. As all of you I am sure are already aware I am a huge Video Game and Anime fan and a mega fan of Asian Esp Japanese Culture In general and this is a great Game series IMO. This game series IMO is one of the better Anime/RPG series but what else would you expect from WORKING DESIGNS, Remember thier games go to 11!. I have many fond memories from playing this game, I never played the SegaCD version and I got The Complete version for the PS1 and fell in love with the series immediately. The Music, The Character's, The Amazing Fmv's and Story. This series is just 100% Pure Epic Win IMO and the special pictures you can find always made me laugh ;) This one Weighs in at 24 tracks total.
